Boston University’s College of General Studies (CGS) is located at 871 Commonwealth Avenue right in the center of the Boston University Campus, a five-minute walk from Kenmore Square and the home of the 2013 World Champion Boston Red Sox, Fenway Park. (Yankees fans are nonetheless welcome at THATCamp New England 2014.) Our central location puts us within walking distance of many great restaurants, bars, and hotels, and gives easy access to all of Boston and Cambridge’s tourist attractions.
Getting to the CGS by Public Transportation
The CGS is extremely easy to get to by public transit. It sits on both the Green “B” Line of the T, Boston’s subway system, and on a number of public bus routes. (For maps and directions, click here.) Visitors should know that the T has stops at Logan Airport, South Station (for bus and train service), and North Station (also for train service).
Getting to the CGS by Car / Parking
Because the CGS is minutes from the Mass Pike, Storrow Drive, and I-93, it is eminently accessible by car. Once you arrive, know that B.U. has a number of university parking lots open to the public. For rates, hours, and location, click here. There is also metered, on-street parking up and down Commonwealth Avenue.
Hotels and Accommodations
There are a handful of hotels within easy walking distance of the College of General Studies. The Holiday Inn Boston-Brookline (near Coolidge Corner, perhaps .4 miles from campus–is kindly offering THATCamp New England attendees their courtesy rate. Just call and identify yourself as a registrant to lock it in. Other close hotel options include the Hotel Commonwealth (directly abutting the B.U. campus–very nice but a little pricier) and the Hyatt Regency Cambridge (right across the Charles River with water views). Further, you should feel free to use Priceline, Orbitz, Kayak, or any other discount travel site to find accommodations elsewhere in the city. So long as you’re close to the T, your commute to B.U. will be pretty easy.
