My work focuses on modern and contemporary American culture and its global context, human rights, and critical theory, and my research and teaching areas include ethnic American literatures as well as visual culture, with a particular emphasis on the effects of colonialism, empire, and globalization. I often write about the politics of literary and visual forms, and my recent favorites in display and curation scholarship include Donald Preziosi and Claire Farago, and Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby, in critical design.
